The Dyberry Weaver

More than half a century at the loom

Charles Hadley Blanchard has been weaving since he began his life as an artist in a Georgia arts community in the late 1960s. The work that fills his Narrowsburg studio carries that long apprenticeship in its threads, along with the patterns he gathered traveling through Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Every rug, poncho, and tapestry is woven by hand on a Harrisville loom, in wool, linen, silk, and local alpaca. No two are alike.

How it's made

Woven slowly, by hand

Charles works the way weavers have for centuries: warping the loom by hand, throwing the shuttle pass after pass, building each piece thread by thread. The influences run from West African dance mats to the bold dhurries of India and the geometry of Himalayan prayer rugs.
